The following reflection was shared by John Vornholt, Director of Asset Services, and is a representation of our team’s commitment to the RockStep Way.
Working hard and achieving a goal can be very rewarding both personally and professionally. It can take an incredible amount of work and time to get there. Although the reaction may be to stop and reflect, don’t. Simply keep going and push to achieve even more.
“Relentless” is an approach that has no off days. It does not take into consideration bad weather or illness. It is non-stop and never-ending. When “relentless” is used for self-improvement you can often find yourself going well beyond your goal until one day you realize that the original goal has now become just a standard that you are working well beyond.
Twelve years ago I decided to improve myself through a more active lifestyle. That day I went for a run with a goal of three miles. I only got one-quarter of a mile in and I couldn’t go any further. The next day I found myself at the same location with a new goal to go “just a few feet farther”. Thanks to a relentless approach to self-improvement, I find myself 12 years later, having logged over 30,000 miles of running.
As the retail world and shopping center industry is changing daily, RockStep Capital finds itself in unknown territory. We have properties that are thriving, adding many new large retailers with more to come, while other properties are challenged with uncertainty. However, pursuit of relentless improvement can’t start and stop based on what might be going well and what might be more challenging. Relentless continues no matter what.
Each one of us on the RockStep team has a unique set of responsibilities. Through a relentless approach, we have developed strengths that set us apart from one another. We are each just a cog in a large rotating RockStep wheel. Our fundamental goal is to continue to push forward. A relentless pursuit to move that RockStep wheel, even if it is “just a few feet farther” each day.
